Circularity at COP30: A Joint Mission for Climate Action

At COP30 in Belém, Brazil, EasyMining joined the Swedish business delegation together with our parent company Ragn-Sells, alongside companies such as IKEA and Tetra Pak. Our shared mission was clear: to put circularity firmly on the agenda of global climate negotiations.

01 Dec 2025

This year’s summit was especially important, as nations submitted their updated climate plans (NDCs) - a crucial opportunity to ensure that circular economy principles become a stronger part of these commitments.

With this backdrop, EasyMining and Ragn-Sells showcased several breakthrough solutions that demonstrate how circular technologies can significantly cut emissions and reduce dependency on virgin raw materials.

  • Ash2Phos – Extracts phosphorus from sewage sludge, reducing EU dependence on imports from Russia and Morocco.
  • Aqua2N – Captures nitrogen from wastewater for direct use in fertiliser production, cutting emissions from traditional nitrogen fertiliser manufacturing, which today accounts for 2% of global CO₂ emissions.
  • Magnesium Recovery – A new process enabling recovery of magnesium from oil shale ash in Estonia, reducing reliance on imports from China.
  • Solvent Recycling Solutions – Certified as a “Climate Solution,” reducing CO₂e emissions by up to 90% compared to linear solvent processes.
  • AQUAPHOENIX Project – A global concept to recover nutrients from fish sludge, and address coastal eutrophication.

Our joint vision is clear: transform today’s wastewater treatment plants into tomorrow’s resource recovery hubs - a future EasyMining and Ragn-Sells are actively shaping.

The outcome

Circularity was successfully included in the COP30 final protocol as a recognised mitigation strategy. But to scale these solutions globally, strong policy incentives and climate legislation are urgently needed to enable - not hinder - circular innovation.

– We leave COP30 convinced that circular transformation will be acknowledged as essential for achieving climate goals. Now, governments must create the right incentives to make this happen, concluded Jan Svärd, CEO of EasyMining.

ASH2™PHOS

EasyMinings´ Ash2Phos technology extracts phosphorus and other resources from sewage sludge ash.

AQUA2™N

EasyMining´s Aqua2N technology removes ammonium nitrogen from wastewater streams and converts it to ammonium sulphate.
