Sewage Treatment
A challenge for a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is to not only effectively separate phosphorus from the effluent, but also recycle the phosphorus that ends up in the sewage sludge.
There are some developing and developed solutions today, but many of them only offer a small recycling potential for the phosphorus in the wastewater/sewage sludge.
In addition, the recovered phosphorus products are often not compatible with the requirements and needs of the farmers, i.e. they are not in the form of well-known fertiliser products. The consequence is that it’s hard if not impossible to get a monetary value from the phosphorus in the sewage sludge.
EasyMining’s patented process Ash2Phos can extract phosphorus from the ashes of incinerated sewage sludge. The main advantage of the Ash2Phos process is that it produces well-known products that today are commercially traded and accepted in agriculture. In addition, the process extracts more than 90% of the phosphorus from the sewage sludge ash and at the same time recovers iron an aluminium. The incinerator and the Ash2Phos process create a symbiosis in which the incinerator generates heat and/or electricity and the Ash2Phos plant further processes the residual ash.
